Undergraduate Parking Information

Parking Prohibition for Residential Freshmen & Sophomore Students

First and second–year students with less than 90 units that reside in University housing facilities, including UCSC Inn and University Town Center, are not eligible to purchase a permit (except motorcycle permits) to park on–campus. Learn more about the Residential Freshmen/Sophomore parking prohibition.

Parking Permits for Eligible Undergraduates

All commuting students (except those at the University Town Center) are eligible for parking permits. Campus residents must have Junior standing, which is 90 credits. NOTE: TAPS staff only see your standing in the Academic Information System (AIS), and cannot see your actual units. If AIS does not show your actual credits, please contact the Registrar’s Office or your college to get written verification for TAPS.

We mail student permits out beginning the last week of August and through the first week of September; after that, permits can be picked up when you arrive on campus in September.

Please note that there is no guarantee of getting the permit you request. We will sell available permits up to the maximum limits we set for each permit type for the year. If we sell out of the permit you have requested, you will be placed on a wait list until we determine that space is available.

R Remote Permits

R Remote Permits are valid in the East and West Remote and the North Perimeter lots on–campus. R Permits can be purchased for the academic year or on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, depending on availability. Annual & Academic-year R Permits can be purchased on-line; R Monthly-$64, R Weekly-$18, and R Daily-$4 Permits must be purchased from the TAPS Sales Office.

The New C Permit
Note: All C permits have sold out for the 2011-12 academic year.

C permits used to be issued by zone, according to college affiliation. With recent changes in campus housing (e.g., the transfer community at Porter), your on-campus residence may not be near your college. TAPS has reconfigured the C permit to be more responsive to the current changes in campus housing.

C permits are now lot-specific; the cost is the same as last year ($577.50 for academic year). On your application, you may specify up to three lots (in order of your preference) where you would be willing to park. Most C permit parking is in lots that are shared by A, B, and C permit holders, unless otherwise indicated. TAPS will monitor permit sales in order not to “oversell” the lots; however, when a parking lot is full on any given day, the C permit holder will have to park in a remote lot.

Permits are available for the following lots or lot combinations (view map here):
•  C111
•  C119
•  C124 (residents only)
•  C145 - SOLD OUT
•  C147 - SOLD OUT
•  C152-155
•  C158-159 (residents only)
•  C162
•  C167 (residents only)

To request a C permit, use the online application at https://tapsosxserver.ucsc.edu/application2011/.
You will be able to specify up to three lots during the application process. If you do not specify any lot, TAPS will assign one for you, based either on your residence or on your college affiliation.

TAPS will create and maintain wait lists for each C lot. Campus residents will be given first priority for C permits; after September 1st, any remaining C permits will be allocated to commuting students. When your name reaches the top of the wait list, TAPS will check the availability of the lots you specified on your application. If all of those lots are sold out, you will automatically be issued and charged for a remote (R) permit.
