Visitor Parking

A valid UCSC permit is required to park in all non-ParkMobile parking spaces on campus. Responsibility for finding a legal parking space rests with the vehicle operator. Purchase of a permit does not guarantee a parking space in a specific parking lot. Inability to find a legal parking space is not justification to park illegally.

Visitor Parking Permits
Visitors may purchase a temporary 1-Day permit from the Main Entrance Kiosk located on Coolidge Drive, between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
A map of both locations is available here.

One-Day temporary permits cost $10.00; One-Night parking permits cost $5.00. Visitors who want to purchase temporary permits for more than one day (for up to a maximum of seven consecutive days) must do so at the TAPS Sales Office in the H Barn. Sales Office hours are 7:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. Both a picture ID and proof of registration are required at the time of permit purchases. If you know the campus location you plan to visit, send an email inquiry in advance of your visit to obtain more information on visitor parking availability for a specific area.

ParkMobile

Hourly and daily parking options are available in several locations via ParkMobile. Find out more about ParkMobile and which lots allow payment via ParkMobile.

Large Vehicles
Parking for large vehicles, such as limos and buses, is limited to the Barn Theater lot at the base of campus. You must contact the TAPS Event Parking Coordinator at least 5 business days in advance. Charter buses should review the information under Charter Bus Parking for loading and unloading information.

Visitors With DMV Placards or Plates
Visitors with DMV placards or plates may park for free in DMV spaces, Medical spaces, or ParkMobile spaces without additional payment, or in time zones (e.g., 10-, 15-, or 20-minute spaces) for longer than the posted time. DMV placards are not valid in spaces reserved for departments, individuals, contractors, carpools or vanpools, or in lots solely designated for “C” permit holders.

Visitors With E Exempt Plates
Visitors with vehicles (which are not UCSC vehicles) that have E Exempt license plates must display a valid UCSC parking permit when parking in a space where permits are required. Visitor permits can be purchased at the TAPS Sales Office (see Visitor Parking Permits section above). Parking in ParkMobile spaces for free is allowed, but only for the allowed time for the space. It is the responsibility of the visitor to determine and adhere to time restrictions when parking in a ParkMobile space.

Arranging Parking for Visitors
Campus departments expecting 15 or more vehicles needing parking permits should contact TAPS Event Parking in advance to arrange for parking (both location and attendants to sell or issue permits). Information about ordering permits for guests is available on the left-hand side of this page.

Family Student Housing Visitors
FSH visitors may purchase a temporary parking permit from the TAPS Sales Office, or use the resident's space (with the FSH permit) when the resident is not using their assigned space. Visitors that park in another resident's space are subject to citation. All Family Student Housing parking spaces are enforced 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Please check the parking designation signs for all Family Student Housing spaces to avoid a parking citation. Visitors may also select from the following options:

  • Use one of the 2-hour ParkMobile spaces located in the Family Student Housing complex (map of campus). These spaces are enforced from 8:00 a.m to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Purchase a temporary A permit to park in any of the A spaces located at FSH. Visitors should purchase a temporary A permit at the Main Entrance Kiosk (Monday through Friday from 7:00 to 11:00am and 12:00 to 3:30pm) or from the TAPS Sales Office in the H Barn (Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 5:00pm) (map of both locations). ParkMobile spaces may also be used by those with a valid A parking permit outside the posted enforcement hours.
