Disability Van Service
The Disability Van Service (DVS) provides on–campus wheelchair lift–equipped transportation for those unable to use the regular Campus Transit system. Disability Van Service is available to staff, faculty, students and visitors with temporary or permanent mobility impairments. No fare is required to use the Disability Van Service; however, current medical documentation and advance reservations are necessary. (See "Authorization Process" section below for more information.)
Submit an online request for Disability Van Service reservations or make reservations by phone at 831/459–2829 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Next day reservations are accepted until 7:30 p.m. the night before. Next day reservations received after 7:30 p.m. the night before will be placed on the will-call list.
School Term Ride Hours
Night, Weekends, Holidays
Late night rides during the week (Monday through Thursday after 9:00 p.m., Fridays after 6:00 p.m.) must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Weekend and holiday rides must be scheduled by 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Reservations for late rides cannot be made the same day – no exceptions.
TAPS requires students to have a doctor's note as medical justification for use of the Disability Van Service (DVS). UCSC students can get medical justification, if warranted, at the Student Health Services (SHS) and can request transportation by the DVS to the SHS for the initial evaluation. Students with UCSHIP insurance or with the CruzCare access plan can be seen at the SHS for a visit for illness or injury without any fees. Additionally, students without campus insurance can be seen by the triage nurse, who may be able to provide medical justification, without any fees. Fees would be incurred at the SHS for students without campus insurance if there is a need for further evaluation by clinicians at the SHS.
If you need additional information about authorization procedures for the Disability Van Service give us a call at 831/459–2829 or send an email inquiry. Medical documentation must be provided as follows:
