Retiree Permits and Bus Passes

Annual A parking permits and Metro bus passes are valid from July 1st through June 30th of each year. UCSC retirees and emeriti must apply each year to receive a complimentary A parking permit or annual Metro bus pass. 


Eligibility for a Retiree Parking Permit or Metro Bus Pass

The following conditions must be met to be eligible to receive a complimentary A parking permit or annual Metro bus pass:

  • The retiree must have worked at least two years at UC Santa Cruz.
  • The retiree must have retired from UC Santa Cruz.
  • The retiree may not be working on the campus in the employ of an outside agency, working on the campus in a paid position that is grant funded, or performing duties for the University on a paid contractual basis.
  • Bus passes must be turned in to the TAPS Sales Office if the person returns to compensated status. Noncompliance will result in a fee assessment.
  • The parking permit or bus pass is for the exclusive use of the retiree only and is not transferable.

Renewing a Retiree Permit or Bus Pass

Important Notes:

  • Retiree permits are issued annually and must be renewed each year.
  • Please ensure your license plate number is correct and have a photo of your vehicle registration ready to upload.

For Parking Permits

  1. Select "25-26 Retiree Annual Parking Permit"
  2. Select the vehicles to add to your permit, or add new ones here
  3. Select "Confirm"
  4. Upload a photo or scan of your vehicle's registration or other proof of ownership. The vehicle must be registered to you or an immediate family member. 
  5. Select "Confirm"
  6. Select "Add Permit to Cart"
  7. Select "Checkout" to complete the application. 
  8. Your Annual Retiree permit is now valid. 

For Bus Passes

  1. Select "25-26 Retiree Annual Bus Pass"
  2. Select "Mail" as the delivery method
  3. Enter the information for where you would like your bus pass mailed
  4. Select "Confirm"
  5. Select "Add Permit to Cart"
  6. Select "Checkout" to complete the application. You should receive your bus pass in the mail in 7-10 business days. If you need to use your bus pass sooner, please email tapssales@ucsc.edu to arrange pick-up. 

New Retiree Permits and Bus Passes

To allow time for processing, complete the online application two weeks prior to the time the permit or bus pass is needed. Processing times may be longer during our peak season.

Parking permits are virtual, and you will receive notification when your application has been processed and your permit is valid.

Bus passes must be picked up at the TAPS Sales office. You will receive a notification when it is ready to pick up. 


Accessing your Virtual Permit

Once you have a retiree virtual permit or a bus pass, you can see your status and renew your permit or pass via ucsc.aimsparking.com. To set up your account follow these steps. 

If you still use your UCSC email

  1. Go to ucsc.aimsparking.com
  2. Select “Login”
  3. Select “Staff/Faculty/Students” in the left column, and click “Login."
  4. Login and authenticate using your Cruz ID and Gold Password. You will be sent to your dashboard where you can manage your permits or renew them.

If you no longer use your UCSC email

  1. Go to ucsc.aimsparking.com
  2. Select “Login”
  3. In the left column, select “Email Authentication”
  4. Select “Forgot Password?”
  5. This will allow you to reset your password for the account that was created for your permit
  6. Enter the email address you used for your application and select “Reset password”
  7. Follow the instructions in the email with the subject line “Parking Password Reset.” Check your spam folder if you do not see the email in a few minutes
  8. Enter your new password and re-enter to confirm. Select “Reset password”
  9. Return to ucsc.aimsparking.com and login with your new password under “Email Authentication” to access your dashboard
