New signage on Steinhart Way next to Quarry Plaza and Sinsheimer Labs, as well as northbound Kerr Road and northbound McHenry Road, has been installed to more clearly remind drivers that Steinhart Way is a restricted road.

Access is limited to only authorized vehicles such as university vehicles, emergency vehicles and vehicles with valid ADA placards or plates. Non compliance may result in a citation.

This is an initial campus effort to make Steinhart Way much more bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly, and restrict personal vehicles from this important east/west corridor. The 2021 Long Range Development Plan envisions fewer cars and more pedestrians in the campus core. The campus continues to develop other measures to improve the walking and biking experience on Steinhart Way.

To access Kerr Hall, automobiles not authorized to use Steinhart Way need to use northbound Kerr Road from Meyer Drive.  To access McHenry Library, automobiles not authorized to use Steinhart Way need to use northbound McHenry Road from Meyer Drive.

Other restricted roads on campus that should be treated in the same manner and avoided by general automobile use are the Cowell Stevenson service road (which is south of Cowell and Stevenson colleges, and runs between Hagar and Lot 108), the East Field Service Road, aka Wellness Way (which runs from Cowell Stevenson service road at its north point, along the east field and back to Hagar, adjacent to the AthRec facilities), and any other roadway with bollard-controlled access points.

Please view the TAPS parking map to see the roadways mentioned above, including Restricted Access Roads.
