During the first few weeks of the academic year, campus transportation system delays and heavier parking demand are more common.
Parking
Parking utilization has been high over the last week. TAPS is aware of this dynamic and is taking steps to review and ameliorate the situation. Parking Enforcement has been and will continue to be very active around campus, targeting their activities to the most affected areas. R permit holders may temporarily park in the Barn Theater Lot (122) while East Remote parking is heavily impacted. Obey all posted signage.
As a reminder, non-compliance with parking policy may result in citation and/or revocation of parking privileges on campus.
Please review the parking map, and/or review where you are eligible to legally park on campus.
Transit
In order to assist with flow and timeliness, METRO has advised us that, effective immediately, students will not need to show ID when boarding their buses on campus. The 60’ articulated (bendy) METRO buses will also allow boarding at both the front and rear doors. This applies only to METRO buses while on campus. Student ID and front-door-boarding-only will be required for all stops off campus.
Additionally, TAPS has onboarded four new drivers who will begin driving Campus Transit shifts this week, adding to both Loop and Upper campus service.
Finally, TAPS expects to begin receiving newly-purchased 40’ shuttles in the coming weeks. These buses will add capacity as we retire our older 35’ shuttles.
BCycle
Due to an ongoing situation with vandalism & theft of BCycle bikes and docks downtown, BCycle is experiencing operational challenges. Because of this, there have been fewer bikes than usual on campus. BCycle is currently working on remedying this situation and we are working with them to bring the number of bikes on campus back to normal levels.
As always, TAPS encourages all members of our campus community to consider alternate means of travel, both on and off campus, whenever possible, including biking, walking, or shared commuting.
